Using a few pieces from your local dollar store, you can great simple candle holders that look just like the ones you'd find at places like Pottery Barn (left), without the big price tag.
I purchased two hurricanes and two pillar bases of varying heights at the local dollar store. There were about $2 each at Dollarama. I used pillars candles that I already had laying around and they were the perfect height for each candle holder.
First clean off the price stickers and any adhesive.
Using a glue gun, make a circle of glue for the hurricane to adhere to.
Make sure to get all the areas where the hurricane will touch the base.
Center the hurricane on the pillar and press down. Hold for 30 seconds until it has cooled and is stable. You could also rest a heavy book on top and let it dry for awhile.
Continue with the other hurricane and pillar base.
Make sure to give them plenty of time to cure before you do anything with them.
Now its time to add the candles. You may need to carve them a little bit to fit perfectly. You can also melt a little wax and drop it into the middle of the hurricane before adding the candle, to help keep them stable.
Next, I added a few fake leaves into the pillar between the candles and the glass. If you do this, be VERY careful never to leave it unattended and when the candle gets too low, remove the leaves. You don't want to catch anything on fire.
Now all you need to do is light the candles and enjoy the wonderful Autumn glow.
Not bad for a simple, inexpensive craft! I'm sure I'll be using these for other seasons too.

The autumn leaves look really nice! My wife and I were thinking of ways to decorate our recycled glass candle containers without painting or gluing something on the glass. Well, thanks for the idea! I guess it's worth a try. I'm gonna show this to my wife later. Thanks for the heads up too, Amanda. We can't afford to catch fire now; we just remodeled our house!
